Coconut milk: the benefits and delicious recipes

Coconut milk is the same metaphor as “bird’s milk”. It is a suspension of white coconut flakes from a liquid. In addition to milk, there is also so-called coconut cream, in which coconut flakes are whipped to an emulsion state. It, which can now be found in any supermarket, is a universal product. It goes equally well with soups, desserts and risotto.


The benefits of the product

Coconut milk is a high-calorie product with a high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids, vitamins and trace elements. It contains vitamins B, C, A, PP; minerals such as potassium, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, zinc, sodium, selenium, iron; useful dietary fibre.


This product is obtained from coconuts, so it is so rich in nutrients and fats that have a beneficial effect on the body. It normalizes the gastrointestinal tract, lowers blood sugar and cholesterol. Also, stabilizes the hormonal background and tones the body as a whole, which is very important in the process of figure correction.


How it affects the human body:

  • folic acid is needed to support the immune system and prevent tumours appearance;
  • magnesium, which affects the normalization of blood pressure and has anti-stress properties. Thus, coconut milk helps the body cope with an unstable emotional state, as well as reduce the impact of stressful situations on the nervous system;
  • coconut milk is rich in phosphorus, which is very useful for bones. It promotes the development and strengthening of bone tissue;
  • retinol is a fat-soluble oxidant necessary for the health of the skin;
  • pantothenic acid helps to restore the body;
  • selenium is an antioxidant that relieves the symptoms of arthritis. It controls free radicals and reduces the risk of inflammation of the joints;
  • niacin is needed for metabolism;
  • iron, a mineral that is responsible for oxygen saturation of erythrocytes, helps to strengthen the cardiovascular system;
  • tocopherol is a natural oxidant that stops the ageing process and increases the functioning of the reproductive organs.

Who should not use coconut milk

Like any other product, coconut milk has several contraindications that should be considered if you want to include it in your diet.


Do not try this product if you have:

  • allergy;
  • intestinal disorders (diarrhoea, constipation);
  • acute period of hypertension;
  • exacerbation of peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum.

It is not recommended to offer coconut milk to children under 2 years of age. Similarly, conditional contraindications include the last trimester of pregnancy and lactation in women. The fact is that the result of drinking coconut milk in these periods has been little studied. Serious allergic reactions in the newborn are possible.


In the presence of chronic and other diseases, it is necessary to consult a specialist.


Pudding with coconut milk

Ingredients: coconut milk; lemons; honey; chia seeds; turmeric; salt.


Preparation:

  1. Rinse the chia seeds thoroughly and discard on a fine sieve.
  2. Cut the zest from the lemons.
  3. Cut the lemons in half and squeeze the juice.
  4. Mix coconut milk, honey, lemon juice and zest, turmeric and salt in a blender bowl. Don’t let turmeric bother you. It gives the dessert a yellowish colour and a light taste.
  5. Beat everything until smooth.
  6. Add chia seeds.
  7. Beat again for 4-5 seconds.
  8. Put the dessert in the fridge overnight.

As it cools, the dessert will become more viscous. Before serving, remove from the refrigerator and let stand at room temperature for 15-20 minutes. Bon appetit!
