Constant anxiety: what is the danger and how to overcome it?

Feeling anxious is not something strange or illegal in our time. People who live during military operations cannot help but worry, and this is absolutely normal, because the psyche is constantly in a state of extreme tension, and it is entirely natural to be afraid, as well as to worry. The feeling of danger, of course, can flood people’s consciousness when rockets fly overhead and explosions are heard nearby. However, chronic or pathological anxiety is a dangerous symptom that must be dealt with. The same applies to excessive paralyzing fear, which prevents a person from thinking critically and acting adequately to the situation, thereby exposing him to danger. While Ukraine is marching towards victory, and the Armed Forces prove that they are the best, we bring to your attention several ways that will help calm feelings of fear and anxiety. However, if simple methods of combating fear do not work, we advise you to contact specialist psychotherapists, who are now ready to help even absolutely free of charge.

How to overcome fear and anxiety:

  • Square breathing

It’s simple. You should take a slow breath for 1-2-3-4, hold the air for 1-2-3-4, exhale for 1-2-3-4 and pause again for 1-2-3-4. This method will help to quickly calm down and bring the heartbeat back to normal.

  • Little physical activity

Dance, do squats, push-ups, punch pillows, and kick the ball with all your might. It is even better if you sing loudly or recite poems at the same time. All this will give an outlet for emotions and help relieve stress.

  • Writing out emotions

Take a blank paper and start writing everything that is in your head right now, even the biggest nonsense. Write almost without thinking, these should not be works of art, these should be your thoughts, along with which anxiety will remain on paper. The exercise can be repeated even several times a day, as long as there is still something to write.

  • Grounding

Sit on a hard surface so that the body feels stable. Look for three soft things in the room with your eyes, then three hard ones. Ask yourself three questions, for example: What is my name? How old am I? Where am I now?

Touch three different surfaces, hear three different sounds around you, try to smell three different smells, and remember the name of three popular songs. All this will help to return to reality.

Most importantly, remember that every, definitely every, war has not only beginning but also its end. And history does not know a single case when the one who barbarically went against the whole world would win. At least victory will come to our homes as soon as possible, and the worries will go away in English, without saying goodbye. Everything will be Ukraine!
