Folk remedies: fight the cold without pills

Folk remedies have been proven ways of treating colds and flu for centuries. And today folk remedies for colds remain quite popular. Learn about the most effective folk treatments in our new article.

Drink more fluid

Increased water consumption is the main way to treat colds quickly. The fluid will help with the intoxication that develops in viral and bacterial infections. As a liquid, you can choose herbal teas, mineral water, compotes, fruit drinks and juices. Just 2-3 litres a day. Consumption of this volume of liquid is the most effective folk remedy for the treatment of colds, which will allow complete recovery in 1-3 days.

Rinse your nose and throat

Regular washing of the nasal cavity with herbal or saline solutions not only helps to cope with the first symptoms of the disease but is also an excellent method of prevention.

If you are ill, rinsing with chamomile broth or iodine-saline solution (1 tsp salt, 3 drops of iodine per 200 ml of warm boiled water) will help.

Inhalation

This method is recognized as one of the most effective in the prevention and treatment of diseases. Today, breathing steam over a pot in which potatoes are cooked is no longer fashionable and ineffective. But to breathe eucalyptus, sage or oak bark is very useful.

For inhalations, it is better to use a special device – nebulizer, the optimal number of breaths/exhalations – 50 times. Inhalation is made only by the nose, exhalation by the mouth. The procedure should be repeated several times a day.

Inhalation with saline or Borjomi mineral water, from which gas is pre-empted, is often helpful.

Special menu

A healthy body needs vitamins, minerals, and trace elements to provide good nutrition. The list of “healing” dishes is headed by chicken soup. You can add spices to it: pepper peas, bay leaves, parsley roots, onions, cloves if desired – a small piece of ginger. Zinc is also very important, which is necessary, in particular, for the metabolism of vitamin E. Most zinc is contained in oysters, but if oysters are not included in your daily diet, they may well be replaced by pumpkin seeds, whole grains, beef liver.

Beetroot was included in the category of especially useful “medicinal” vegetables: scientists recognized it as an excellent fighter with viruses and bacteria. It is recommended to use beets in any form, but it is better to bake in the oven.

Keep calm

Doctors say in one voice: stress lowers immunity. What is the conclusion? – not to be nervous. It’s easy to say, but how do you do it? Each person has own “keys” to the nervous system, which are formed on the basis of the experience of life that she has received. It has been proven by scientists, for example, that the brains of believers with stress cope better (compared to atheists). The desire to keep everything under control, to be “on top”, to defend your point of view – all this will inevitably lead to stress. If you are unable to cope with anxiety by yourself, counselling a psychologist can help in dealing with such situations.
