How to prevent the appearance of split ends

Split ends instantly give the impression of untidy hair. And no matter how cosmetic manufacturers try to produce miracles that can “repair” split ends, the result from their use is not surprising. And scissors come to the rescue. And what to do if you do not want to cut your hair continually? How to keep the hair healthy? GoBeauty has prepared some helpful tips.

Wash your head gently

Excessive shampoo can wash away natural grease (sebum) of your hair, leaving your hair vulnerable to damage. Follow these steps to develop a system that helps minimize the risk of cut ends:

  • wash your hair no more than three times a week (or try to wash your hair less often if you have thick, curly or afro hair);
  • clean only the scalp and the closest area of hair, do not touch the rest (ends are washed well enough when the shampoo is drained downwards);
  • hot water flushes out the protective lipid film, so wash your hair with water as cold as possible;
  • if your hair is still sharp at the ends, try using a milder shampoo without sulfates and parabens.

Use conditioners and masks

After using shampoo, apply conditioner for the entire length of hair. Leave it on for at least 3 minutes and then rinse. Apply nourishing, moisturizing and restorative masks 1-2 times a week. They should be left for 10-20 minutes on the hair. You can enhance the effect by wearing a shower hat and warming your hair with a hairdryer.

Carefully dry your hair

Intense towel rubbing is not the best attempt to dry your hair. Instead, wipe your wet hair with a towel to get rid of excess moisture. Then leave it to dry naturally.

If you need to speed up the drying process, use a medium or low power blow dryer, preferably cold air. To minimize damage, keep the hair dryer at a distance of 40-60 centimetres from your hair.

If you usually twist your hair with a towel, try using a cotton T-shirt instead.

Always use thermal protection

Thermal protective hair oils are your friend and ally if you want to prevent split ends. First, apply oil before each styling. Secondly, never use a hairdryer on the ends, they will dry out entirely. For the styler, try not to twist the ends either. When using the hair straightener, do not choose the maximum temperature and make sure that the hair is dry.

Get the right comb

A comb or brush should help you deal with your curly hair without pulling it off. For thick hair, a comb with many teeth, a wooden comb or a comb is best. For fine hair, it is better to use a wooden comb or a brush made of hemp or other flexible natural bristles. Wet curls can only be combed with a wide-toothed comb, preferably bamboo. Now there is also a fashion on the malachite and pink quartz comb. They are, of course, useful, but very fragile.

Stock up on keratin

Keratinotherapy is a reasonably expensive procedure and, in fact, absolutely worthless if your hair is naturally straight. It is enough to buy liquid keratin for hair at any drugstore or cosmetic shop and add it to your usual balm or hair mask. The instructions say how much to use, because the concentration of the product may be different.
