TOP-3 books to read this fall

In the fall, most of all, we want to wrap ourselves in a blanket and read a good book with a cup of coffee. GoBeauty won’t stay away from cultural life this fall, so we’ve prepared the TOP-3 books for you that we recommend reading right now.

Francis Scott Fitzgerald: The Great Gatsby

The novel takes place near New York, on the “golden coast” of Long Island, in the midst of rich villas. In the 1920s, after the depression that accompanied America during the war, the economy entered a period of prosperity. These were golden times that were only overshadowed by dry law – it gave impetus to the development of organized crime. Admiring the wealthy young men and their charm, the author simultaneously condemns the unlimited materialism and lack of morality of America of those times. In the image of Jay Gatsby, Fitzgerald managed to achieve amazing harmony in depicting the allure of the dream and its inevitable collapse. This is a story about how the money and power that the hero wanted did not make him happy.

Ernest Hemingway: For whom the bell tolls

It is a brief but poignant reflection on the subject of death, ideology and the incredible cruelty and absurdity of war. Critics consider this novel to be one of the best. Full of tragedy is the story of a young guy who came from America to Spain, engulfed in the civil war. A brilliant yet sad book about war and love, true courage and self-sacrifice, moral duty and incurable human values. And nowadays Hemingway’s “For whom the bell tolls” sounds as exciting and disturbing as it did fifty years ago. So “never ask whom it is calling: it is calling you.”

Harper Lee: Kill a mockingbird

This book is a lesson of humanity through the eyes of a young child. The novel depicts the events of the 1930s, the period of the Great Depression in America. The protagonist’s father is a lawyer defending a black guy who is accused of raping a young white girl. The plot and characters are mostly based on the author’s observations of her family, neighbours and events that took place near her hometown during Harper Lee’s childhood. The novel became a classic of contemporary American literature and received the Pulitzer Prize.
