Ernest Hemingway: For whom the bell tolls

It is a brief but poignant reflection on the subject of death, ideology and the incredible cruelty and absurdity of war. Critics consider this novel to be one of the best. Full of tragedy is the story of a young guy who came from America to Spain, engulfed in the civil war. A brilliant yet sad book about war and love, true courage and self-sacrifice, moral duty and incurable human values. Harper Lee: Kill a mockingbird

This book is a lesson of humanity through the eyes of a young child. The novel depicts the events of the 1930s, the period of the Great Depression in America. The protagonist’s father is a lawyer defending a black guy who is accused of raping a young white girl. The plot and characters are mostly based on the author’s observations of her family, neighbours and events that took place near her hometown during Harper Lee’s childhood. The novel became a classic of contemporary American literature and received the Pulitzer Prize.
