Yes or no: The benefits and harms of milk

Now more and more often the opinion is heard about the harm of the milk and many have a reasonable question – why can’t we drink it?

Of course, we can drink milk, but not everyone.

The benefits of cow’s milk

It helps:

– in maintaining weight and building muscle. 100 g of cow’s milk accounts for about 3.2-3.5 g of protein, which is almost completely absorbed;

– improve bone health. Calcium is necessary for healthy, strong bones and teeth, and it is contained in milk, and most importantly, it is easily absorbed;

– reduce the risk of stroke. Low-fat cow’s milk, cheese and dairy products reduce the risk of stroke and heart disease.

Why milk cannot be drunk: harm of the product

Milk can interfere with digestion. There are people with lactose intolerance. It can be expressed in the form of lactose deficiency and in the form of an allergy to protein of cow’s (goat’s, sheep’s and other types) milk.

Carbohydrates in milk are represented by lactose. To absorb it, the body needs lactase. With a lack of this enzyme, lactose cannot be completely digested, and as a result, in half an hour – two hours after consuming dairy products, diarrhea, gas formation, nausea, vomiting, and cramping of the abdominal muscles can occur.

Cow’s milk increases the acidity of the stomach, which can lead to ulcers on the walls of the stomach and intestines, in other words, gastritis and peptic ulcer.

People after 50 should either reduce milk intake or even abandon it. It can provoke the progression or development of atherosclerosis. And all because milk contains myristic acid, which contributes to the accumulation of low-density lipoproteins in the body, which play an important role in the development of atherosclerosis.

Well, the simplest reason why you can’t drink milk is that it is very high in calories. People who want to lose weight should not drink it.
