Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and Alexander McQueen have already become abreast of Fashion houses, who prefer to work with models over 18 years old.
According to CNN, starting from 2020, young boys and girls under the age of 18 will no longer represent the brands that are part of the French group working in the Kering luxury segment. It includes Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, Bottega Veneta, Boucheron, Brioni and Pomellato. New rules apply to both fashion shows and photo shoots.
Two years ago, the Kering and LVMH groups (Louis Vuitton, Fendi and Givenchy) signed a model welfare memorandum, which set the minimum working age for a model to be 16 years old. The goal is to establish principles for protecting the health and well-being of the models. The memorandum also assumes that a medical certificate is required for the models.
Moreover, the changes that the memorandum prescribed entered into force a month before, as a 14-year-old model from Russia, Vlada Dziuba died in October 2017, working as a model in China. This tragic episode was the reason for the new revision of the working conditions of the models.
A new decision on working with models older than 18 years old will come into force at the time of the release of the fall-winter 2020 collections.
