How to become a nail artist and what courses to choose

Following the popular profiles of nail artists on Instagram, you ask yourself how these beautiful women can combine family and work together so neatly while earning good money from drawings on the nails. And the next question is how to become a nail artist and make money in your favourite business. GoBeauty Blog will tell you about it today.

Why you should take courses

Education, whether it be advanced training or you get new knowledge, is a key component of the work of the nail artist.

Through training, the professional:

  • always up-to-date on the latest developments in the nail industry;
  • develops and improves the quality of work;
  • shows clients credentials of education;
  • knows how to work with people and can meet the needs of the client;
  • has an understanding of labour standards and rules.

Upon completion of the course, the student receives a document.

Depending on the educational organization, it is possible to receive:

  1. Document the state model in the form specified by the educational organization. The form must be written in a unique order of the document. A certificate is a confirmation that its owner has taken the course and learned the information. Diploma – a hardcover document with the application in the form of certification results. In both cases, if necessary, the graph to assign qualifications is used.
  2. Document without numbers and marks. It can be called at the discretion of the issuing organization.
  3. Certificate of international design. Issued by organizations licensed for educational activities.

Types of manicure and pedicure courses

Training programs may vary:

Beginner

If you’ve never taken a manicure seriously, you should start with the basics. You will be introduced to the basic materials and tools, will be taught to do classic, European and hardware manicures, determine skin and nail diseases and professionally apply varnish and coloured gel polishes. These manicure courses will give you the knowledge you need to get to work.

For the advanced

Manicure courses offer a variety of short-term programs dedicated to the intricacies of the profession. For example, creating a gradient effect, gel or acrylic modelling, working with coloured gels, bio gel, as well as with modern medical and strengthening coatings and so on. These courses are much shorter than beginner classes, but you should only enrol if you have already completed the basic course.

Courses also vary in duration:

Express courses

The minimum duration of a basic manicure course is 50 hours. All courses of shorter duration may be considered express courses. Of course, they are unlikely to be suitable for the effective study of the profession.

Long-term (with diploma/certificate)

Courses that can be the first step in a professional path will take time. The duration of long-term manicure courses is from 50 to 250 hours. Of course, the longer you study, the more knowledge and practice you will gain.

Workshops

Short-term workshops are usually dedicated to one aspect, such as nail design, spa care, or alignment techniques. It usually takes about five to eight hours.

Is it possible to become a nail artist by studying on your own?

It is theoretically possible. But will you become a sought-after professional just by searching YouTube videos and following the instructions in the articles? Besides, it will take a lot more time and effort than if you take the courses and master the profession under the guidance of experienced nail artists.

Also, self-education is unconfirmed and there may be a demanding client who will require you to confirm your qualifications. The profile school will give you a certificate that you can show to clients, friends and even your beloved grandmother.
