The Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art has already announced the theme of the 2020 exhibition. It is called “About Time: Fashion and Duration”.

“About Time: Fashion and Duration is a rethinking of the history of fashion, fragmented, intermittent, and heterogeneous,”- explains CEO Andrew Bolton.

Also, note that next year is a landmark for the Metropolitan Museum of Art because it will celebrate its 150th anniversary.

According to Bolton, he was inspired by the movie “Orlando” by Sally Potter (1992), based on the Virginia Woolf novel of the same name for the new Met Gala theme. “There is a wonderful scene in the film in which Tilda Swinton enters the labyrinth in an 18th-century dressing gown, and when she goes through it, her clothes turn into a mid-19th-century dress and she appears in England in the 1850s. This is where this idea came from,” – Andrew Bolton added.

By the way, the official opening of the Met Gala exhibition will be held on May 4, 2020.
