Fashion terms we bet you don't know
The language of the fashion industry is rapidly evolving, so new terms and words appear. Still, it is sometimes impossible to keep up with this development, articles and fashion news become a little confusing. Shopping in stores sometimes causes misunderstanding. Culottes? Long sleeve? Bomber jacket? Let’s deal with it all below.
Haute couture is a high fashion. Each item in the collection is available in one copy. Such collections are similar to works of art. Most often they are bought by collectors because wearing such things in everyday life is impossible.
Pre-a-porter – in French means “Ready-to-wear”. These are the collections of fashion designers produced by big batches. We see them in branded boutiques like Chanel, Dior, and others. Unlike Haute couture, these collections are not fitted in shape and are sold in the finished form.
Who is a fashionista? A fashionista is a person whose outfits look like “from the picture”, they dress only in fashionable clothes and, of course, follow the latest trends. Such a person can be a fashion journalist, who understand the history of fashion. Also, a fashionista – a person who follows the fashion in earnest. This is also the person who helps others to find stylish clothes and looks. So, if a person is seriously involved with the fashion – it can be called a fashionista.
Let’s turn to the clothes names. How often did you meet the names of clothes and do not understand what the chino pants, palazzo and culottes are? And what is it all about?
Let’s start with the chino pants These trousers have a free cut and are of medium width. Most often they are made of dense cotton or flax.
Palazzo – trousers free from thighs. They are often called “pants-skirt”. Now the models with the high waist are fashionable.
Culottes – wide, shortened trousers. The most common length – to the middle of the shin.
Long sleeve is a T-shirt with long sleeves, it is attributed to the base wardrobe because can be combined with almost everything.
Sweatshirt – is a jacket with round collar and without clasps. It is more sporty style type of clothes but often combined in completely different looks.
And what is a bomber jacket? This is a bulky, lightweight, short jacket. It fastens with the zipper or buttons.
Parka is a kind of outerwear, that is often extended to the middle of the thigh. It can be winter or autumn season.
And what about shoes? There are not just shoes, sneakers and boots. There are a lot of varieties nowadays.
Loafers – men’s or women’s shoes without clasps or laces. Have around the sock and a long shoe tongue.
Espadrilles are a light, summer footwear that has a flat sole with a tourniquet.
“Ugly shoes” appeared a few years ago and gathered a large number of fans and “haters”.
