Scientists have determined the maximum weight of a children's backpack

Recommendations on weight children can wear to and from school have long existed. However, they were created for bags, and modern students wear backpacks. 40% of children in Spain prefer those on wheels. Therefore, a group of Spanish and British scientists decided to revise the old recommendations and determine the safe weight of school backpacks.

For this, an experiment was conducted in which 49 elementary school pupils participated. It turned out that the maximum load during movement fell on the hips and torso, and the knees and ankles were loaded minimally.

According to the results of the experiment, the researchers were able to make recommendations on what should be a student’s backpack. Children aged 7-12 years are recommended to wear up to 10% of their weight in a normal backpack and up to 20% when using the variety on wheels.
