How to remove gel polish and don't lose nails: 2 best ways

When you do not have time to ask a nail artist to remove the gel polish, you can do it yourself at home. GoBeauty Blog will tell you to step by step how to do it and not to damage your nails.

Method #1 – soaking

This is the easiest method for those who do not want to shop for special products.

You will need:

  • nail polish remover (acetone);
  • foil;
  • wadding or cotton pads;
  • orange tree sticks or nail pusher;
  • nail file;
  • cuticle oil.

It is also possible to do without foil using a regular plastic bag or plastic clips. The main thing is that the liquid to remove the gel varnish is not dried, because then it will not dissolve the varnish.

Instructions for removing the gel polish:

  1. Wash hands with warm water.
  2. Cut the cotton pads into pieces and the foil into strips.
  3. Remove the topcoat with a rough nail file.
  4. Moisten the cotton pad with nail polish remover and apply it to the nail.
  5. Wrap the nail with a foil strip.
  6. Repeat with each nail.
  7. Leave for 15 minutes.
  8. After this, remove the foil (clip) with a cotton pad and remove the gel residue with a pusher and an orange stick.
  9. Remove the residue on the nail with a buff.
  10. When done, grease the cuticle with oil.

Method #2 – removal with the help of a special apparatus

This is a more modern method, but it requires a manicure machine. The principle of operation is very simple: the cutter, rotating, removes gel polish on the nail.

You will need:

  • manicure apparatus;
  • hard cutter;
  • grinding nail file or soft cutter;
  • cuticle oil.

The execution technology is very simple:

  1. Select the desired cutter and insert it into the handle of the machine.
  2. Turn on the machine and run the cutter from the base to the tip of the nail.
  3. Repeat on all nails.
  4. If necessary, take a polishing cutter or similar cutter and remove any residue from the coating.
  5. Treat the cuticle with oil.

Before getting to work, work out that it's not a bad idea to mess up: a piece of plastic, for example. This will help you understand at what angle it's easier to work. When you get your hands on it you can try on your own nails. The main thing - gradually, layer by layer to remove the gel polish from each nail. Do not move fast while keeping your elbows on the table so your hand does not tremble. Do not press too hard on the nail to avoid injuring it. Only gently press the cutter until the varnish is removed.
