Plus-size fashion: how to look charming with a non-standard figure

Regardless of weight, proportions and body shapes, women want to dress beautifully and stylishly. But plus-size ladies are often hindered by outdated stereotypes. It is accepted that the fate of such fashionistas – dark and spacious clothes for all occasions.

The scale of the problem

In retail, the choice of large size clothing is, in fact, limited. Not that it doesn’t exist at all, but finding a stylish and trendy thing is hard. The reasons are different, but there are two main:

• sellers do not want to take the risk of ordering non-standard sizes, and it is easier for them to wholesale the most current sizes and to be sure that the clothing will be sold;
• sewing companies do not produce all the models in the full line of sizes (usually the reason is that the development of particular patterns for clothing of large sizes).

Features of plus-size clothing

The design of each model for the plus-size ladies is slightly different from the usual ones. High-end manufacturers do not just increase their size, they change the proportions slightly, without maintaining a strict bust-waist-hip ratio. Typically, when designing dresses and sundresses, they leave more volume in the bust area for breast augmentation, allowing you to shift the accent to the top visually. Also, the trousers are always more full at the bottom.

What kind of clothes suits plus-size women

Girl or woman with a non-standard figure should not choose clothes in contrasting colours. So the body is visually divided into parts and thus focuses on the disadvantages. White and pastel shades are acceptable. There is no need to fear that light clothing will further enlarge shapes: it is enough to look at the fashion show of plus-size models. The peculiarity of their looks is a skilful combination of different shades, patterns, fabrics. It doesn’t matter whether it is a coloured outfit or monochrome, light or black. Harmony must be present in the outfit of a woman with taste, distracting from the fullness and giving visual pleasure to others.

The dress with a deep narrow neckline looks good. The elongated and narrowed neckline gives the figure a slimmer look.

Stylists recommend that full women buy things made of smooth matte materials. Fabrics with the pile, fur, coarse knitwear are losing options. It is better to have dense fabrics, though in summer it is appropriate to wear a dress or suit made of natural silk, chiffon, and cotton of a simple cut. In the winter, it is wool. Choose sweaters, jumpers that are made of thin threads.

There are a few other factors that will help look stylish:

• a dress or suit with a small, fuzzy pattern will visually reduce body volume;
• vertical stripes pattern makes the figure taller and slimmer;
• shiny fabrics, lurex, many rings will give the figure a few extra pounds.
