Why are nails peeling and how to help the client?

It is impossible to do a good manicure and pedicure if the client has weak nails. If the nail plates on the hands or feet are slowly growing, no longer strong and flaky, it’s time to draw the client’s attention to his health. In our new article, we will talk about the causes of nails peeling and how to work with such hands.

Why are nails peeling?

There are several reasons for the deterioration of nails.

Health problems

The nail plate becomes softer and thinner due to the kidneys, intestines, liver or pancreas problems. Nervous exhaustion, stress and antibiotics can also be the causes of nail peeling. Advise the client to remember the latest life events and analyze them.

Lack of minerals and vitamins

Improper diet or prolonged diet lead to deficiency disease, which affects not only health but also the condition of the skin, hair and nails. Calcium, magnesium, silicon, phosphorus and vitamins A, B1, C, D and E are the most important for the health of the nail plate. Seafood, green vegetables, fruits, eggs, legumes, as well as all kinds of nuts are rich in these elements. Advise the client to review the diet.

Household chemicals contact

If the client’s work or daily activities involve the use of aggressive detergents, problems with nails and skin are inevitable. The best prevention of nails peeling will be the use of ordinary latex gloves for cleaning.

How to work with such nails

The general recommendations are presented to everyone, regardless of what caused the stratification and brittleness of your client’s nails.

Use a soft nail file

We recommend using crystal or laser nail files. They are the most delicate and you can use it to “seal” nail scales. If the client has a problem of nail layering, it makes sense to buy a separate nail file with minimal abrasiveness.

Polish the nails properly

It is necessary to polish nails in the direction from edges to the centre and from a tip to the basis. Check the quality of polishing on a thin fabric like nylon tights. Run nails over it: they should slide smoothly, do not cling to the threads. Do not polish nails for more than 2 minutes: there is a risk of sharpening the nail plate.

File the nails properly

So that a visit to your beauty salon does not lead to even more nail peeling, do not provide chaotic and abrupt movements from side to side. The file should be held at an angle of approximately 45 degrees. Don’t forget to move it from the periphery to the centre.

Polish with wax and oils

The procedure of sealing with wax or oils helps to fill the damaged areas and “glue” the layers. Offer the client a hands bath. And when the structure of the nail plate is most susceptible to care, apply a special wax or olive oil on your hands and with gentle circular motions with a soft polishing file (800 to 4000 grit) rub it into the nail plate and fill the area. The result is noticeable immediately.

Try paraffin therapy

You are likely to offer clients a procedure of hot and even cold paraffin therapy to moisturize the skin. The same will be effective for strengthening nails. Warm paraffin improves blood circulation and activates cell renewal. The procedure helps to glue the peeling nail plate and prolong the life of the manicure.
