Scientists have proved: Money does not bring happiness

How does a person feel in life and society and how much do we like the way we live? It has always been interesting to psychology. It turns out that in many ways these are our subjective feelings, and often our joy of life does not depend on financial well-being. What is happiness? What do you need to be happy?

82 years long experiment

In 1938, Harvard University initiated the study. 724 people were selected. The first group consisted of students from the university itself, and the second group of subjects included people from poor areas. People who participated in the study were interviewed throughout their lives. They were asked all sorts of questions about themselves. Conversations were held with their colleagues, teachers, doctors. Also, their medical indicators were taken into account.

This study is unique because it has been able to last so long. Another 60 people out of the first 724 are alive and continue to participate in the study. A new group of 2,000 children was also recruited to further study the phenomenon of a happy life. The study survived and continues to develop only thanks to the enthusiasm of scientists, in particular, Robert Waldinger and his colleagues, who again and again send applications with questions, talk to participants and their family.

Conclusions of scientists

What helps us stay happy and healthy for a lifetime? If you think of money and fame, then you are wrong.

So, according to Waldinger: “The clearest discovery we’ve made in a 75-year study is that good relationships make us happier and healthier.”

That’s right, the most accurate predictor of a happy and fulfilling life in the future is, in particular, love. Studies have shown that the presence of love in a person’s life keeps the nervous system calm, helps the brain stay healthy and reduces emotional pain.

“It’s not about the number of friends, and it’s not about whether you’re in a relationship with anyone,” – says Waldinger – “It’s all about a close relationship”.

It doesn’t matter if you have a large group of friends or an ideal relationship, only the quality of that relationship is considered – how deep and honest they are, whether you can be yourself.

Principles of happiness

GoBeauty wants to share the happiness principles we use in our lives. We are sure that work in this direction will lead everyone to a good life and deep relationships. So:

  1. Success depends entirely on your point of view. Consider yourself successful. Destroy the “does not work” argument that you have. Imagine it, visualize it, and then mentally take a large solid stone and break it. Designing failures leads to constant testing. Your low self-esteem is the result of a thought imposed on you, in which you believe.
  2. Be able to see the future and be grateful to your loved ones, friends and colleagues. Grateful for the experience and situations that happened.
  3. Be timely and reliable in all respects. It means to do everything on time when you are asked to do it, not when the stars in the sky are in the right order or the weather is fine. Reliability is when you are sure that under any circumstances you will be heard and helped.
  4. Be attentive to yourself, to your actions and attentive to others. Start with yourself. Don’t demand from others what you don’t have.
  5. Watch what you listen to. If your environment complains about husbands, children, managers, health, neighbours, other circumstances, keep track of it and direct the conversation in a different direction. Don’t be afraid to evaluate your words. It is better to suggest another topic of conversation.
  6. Systematicity is also very important. Lack of regularity and inability to keep the rhythm of positive change can lead you to think that you do not succeed or it does not work. But remember the behaviour of babies in the first year of life – how persistently they train their walking skills. Fell – got up – went on. And with what passion! Get infected with your perseverance, happiness, desire and faith. Your downfalls are the path to your success.

And finally. Do everything easily, take yourself and others not so serious. Laugh enough. Learn by doing, but not losing sight of the result. Discipline your thoughts, words and actions to be true to your decision. Do everything with love and be happy.
